Here's what we have to say

Now You SEO Us: Building Visibility and Other Takeaways from MozCon 2020

Created On: September 30, 2020

The search engine optimization (SEO) landscape seems like it changes every other week, so it’s nice to be able to gather with the brightest minds in the industry to share thoughts, ideas, and ways to move forward in the uncertainty. That’s exactly what we did at MozCon 2020, Moz’s annual conference. While it looked a little different this year (ahem, through a computer screen), we embraced the opportunity to learn in our sweatpants with an endless supply of coffee brewing. Check out our top takeaways from the two-day conference.

If You Don’t Have Strong Opinions, You Won’t Stand Out

According to Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, “Well behaved women seldom make history,” and according to Andy Crestodina, going with the flow never got anyone anywhere. If you want to be a thought leader in your industry, you need to speak up, challenge the status quo, and make waves in the community.

Michael King Deserves an Oscar

If you’re not familiar with Michael King, you should be. His presentation on technical SEO was enchanting, creating an elaborate production with a ton of useful information. We weren’t sure if we should have been taking notes or munching on popcorn (don’t worry, we did the former). It’s 100% something you have to witness for yourself. Automation is King

If you’re not automating your workflow, you’re already behind. Why waste your time doing tasks a computer can do for you? Make Python your personal assistant, and you won’t regret it.

In our personal opinion, the best thing you can do for your SEO right now is to use thoughtful automation to become more efficient, and you don’t even have to be a computer whiz to accomplish it! IFTTT is a free platform that allows users to create “recipes”  for workflows that can do things like mine social media for content ideas or monitor brand mentions.

There’s Always More to Learn

Ok, we knew this one already, but there was so much to learn, so many rabbit holes to go down, and so much advice from fellow SEOs at MozCon. SEO is ever-changing, and staying up-to-date requires serious dedication. It’s a good thing we’re up to the task.
